چکیده

Data rate selection for IEEE 802.11-based wireless networks is not specified in the Specification. The problem of determining an appropriate data rate for the sender to send DATA frames and to adapt to changing channel conditions is referred to as rate adaptation. We propose DRA (differential rate adaptation), a rate adaptation scheme for IEEE 802.11 networks. It enables a high network throughput by adaptively tuning the data transmission rate according to the channel conditions. It is responsive to link quality changes and has little implementation overhead. Our experiments indicate that DRA yields a throughput improvement of about 20% to 25% compared to previous work.

An Adaptive Energy Efficient Model for wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Several transmit power control MAC protocols have been designed primarily to reduce the energy consumption in wireless ad hoc networks. On the other hand, many adaptive rate MAC protocols have been mainly proposed to improve the network throughput. Recently, very few MAC protocols have been suggested by combining the transmit power control and adaptive rate in one algorithm. In this paper, we p...

An Adaptive IEEE 802.11 MAC in Multihop Wireless Ad Hoc Networks Considering Large Interference Range

The IEEE 802.11 standard is the most popular Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for wireless local area networks. However, when the IEEE 802.11 MAC is used in wireless ad hoc networks, it will suffer from more serious hidden terminal and exposed terminal problems than those in WLAN. More specifically, it is resulted from the “large” interference range and the “large“ carrier sensing range. In...

Efficient MAC strategies for the IEEE 802.11n wireless LANs

Current IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) standard products can provide up to 54 Mbps raw transmission rate, while non-standard WLAN products with 108 Mbps have already appeared in the market, and the next generation WLAN will provide much higher transmission rates. However, the medium access control (MAC) was designed for lower data rates, such as 1–2 Mbps, and it is not an effici...

By Modifying BEB Algorithm an Optimized MAC 802.11 Protocols for Wireless Network

in wireless ad-hoc network, backoff is traditionally based on the IEEE binary exponential backoff algorithm. As wireless ad-hoc network is usually used in the critical situation, its efficiency and performance is significant. Since MAC is the fundamental layer the design of an efficient and high performance underlying MAC protocol is significant for the overall performance of the ad-hoc network...

Infrastructure-Based MAC in Wireless Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

The IEEE 802.11 standard is the most popular Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for wireless local area networks. However, in an ad-hoc environment, the Point Coordination Function (PCF), defined in the standard, cannot be readily used. This is due to the fact that there is no central authority to act as a Point Coordinator (PC). Peer-to-peer ad-hoc mode in the IEEE 802.11 standard only imple...
